Checking your spiritual temperature regularly ensures you’re heading in the right eternal direction.

Have you ever done a spiritual temperature check? I don’t mean with a fancy thermometer or some heavenly app. I’m talking about taking a good, honest look inside yourself and asking, “Where do I stand with God?” It’s the kind of checkup many of us skip because, frankly, we’re a bit scared of the results. But it’s crucial—like checking your tires before a long drive.

Think of it this way: Imagine we’re crossing the road together, sharing a laugh, and suddenly—boom! A truck sends us straight to Heaven’s front door. Now, you’re standing face to face with God. What would you say? Would you feel confident about your eternity, or would you nervously list your good deeds, hoping they’re enough to open Heaven’s gates?

You might say, “I’m a good person; surely that counts for something, right?” I used to think exactly the same thing. But here’s the tricky part: that’s our idea, not necessarily God’s truth. Proverbs 3:5 wisely warns us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Our own understanding can be pretty shaky.

Here’s God’s take: Romans 3:23 reminds us, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” That’s everyone—yes, even the nicest grandma or your super-kind neighbor who always waves hello. No one earns their way into Heaven based on their good works. It’s a hard truth but necessary medicine.

Jesus himself said it clearly in John 3:3, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” Born again doesn’t mean going back into diapers—it means a fresh start through faith in Christ. He stands gently knocking at the door of our hearts, as Revelation 3:20 beautifully puts it, just waiting to be invited inside.

You see, Jesus made it simple. He’s the only way to Heaven. John 14:6 states plainly, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This means your salvation doesn’t rely on how many good deeds you’ve piled up. It’s about accepting Jesus and receiving the free gift of grace.

Billy Graham once said, “Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion; it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ.” Just as plants need sunlight daily, our spiritual lives require constant nourishment and growth. That’s what makes your faith real and alive.

The takeaway here is clear: our goodness alone isn’t enough. Only Christ’s goodness can bridge the gap between us and God. He’s done all the heavy lifting on the cross; our part is simply to accept the gift.

I challenge you today: don’t put off this eternal decision. If you’re unsure about your spiritual health, pray right now. Say, “Jesus, forgive my sins and be Lord of my life.” It’s simple, powerful, and life-changing.
